Pitt vs. Clemson - Feb. 12, 2020 - 9PM - Live Game Thread

Pitt (15-9, 6-7) has a chance to get back to 0.500 in ACC play tonight if they can beat Clemson (11-12, 5-8) tonight at 9 p.m. at the Peterson Events Center in Pittsburgh, Pa. Just as was the case with Georgia Tech on Saturday, this game is a must-win contest for Pitt if they have any shot of getting to the NCAA Tournament this season.

Players to watch this evening:

Clemson - Tevin Mack. Mack, a former top-100 recruit, is at his third school in four years, as he suits up for Clemson as a graduate transfer following stints at Texas and Alabama. The fifth-year senior is averaging 12.2 points and 5.6 rebounds per game this year, while shooting an excellent 62.3 percent from two-point range. He's shooting a career-low 27.0 percent from beyond the arc, but he's still a big three-point volume shooter with 5.5 attempts per game. During ACC play, he's shot an even worse 20.8 percent on three balls on 5.9 attempts per game. Career-wise, though, he's a 31.8 percent shooter, and this has been by far his worst season from deep. Even with his deep shooting struggles, he's been really good for the Tigers this year, and if he can get into an offensive rhythm, he could give Pitt major problems.

Pitt - Terrell Brown. Brown was off to a terrific start against Georgia Tech on Saturday, racking up nine points, six rebounds, two blocks, and two steals against the Yellow Jackets, before foul trouble derailed his afternoon. He wound up playing just 18 minutes and fouled out of the game, but he showed more energy on the floor than during most games this season. Part of the coaching staff's job with Brown has always been, and will continue to be, harnessing that energy to encourage the production, while limiting the mistakes. It will be interesting to see if he can string together two really strong performances in a row, which he has struggled to do this season since before ACC play.

The Panthers have a 67.0 percent chance of winning according to ESPN, and the Panthers are favored by 3.5 points. According to KenPom's college basketball rankings, Pitt is ranked no. 79 in the country, and Clemson sits at no. 96. Especially with the home court advantage, this is a game that Pitt needs to win.
