Pitt played its debut game this afternoon in the second round of the 2014 ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament and walked away with a convincing 84-55 victory over Wake Forest at the Greensboro Coliseum, Greensboro, NC.

Leading Pitt were the usual suspects: seniors Lamar Patterson (24 points on 8 for 13 shooting including 4 for 6 from downtown and a perfect 4 for 4 from the line) and Talib Zanna (17 points on 8 for 10 shooting and 1 for 1 at the line). Zanna also added 9 rebounds, 3 steals, 1 block and nearly had yet another double-double.

Freshmen North Carolina native guard Josh Newkirk added 10 points on 4 for 6 shooting in his debut post-season game.

Pitt led throughout the game on the backs of tight defense forcing 14 Demon Deacon turnovers.

Wake Forest struggled to get anything going offensively and were led by guards Coron Williams (16 points on 5 for 8 shooting) and Codi Miller-McIntyre (10 points on 5 for 13 shooting from the floor).

The Panthers also outrebounded Wake Forest 38-30 and came within 1 point of giving the Demon Deacons their worst loss in their ACC Tourney history.
