We have some breaking news this Sunday night as Brett McMurphy of ESPN has reported per sources that Eastern Michigan AD Heather Lyke will be hired as the new AD at PITT.

Heather Lyke was the 13th AD in Eastern Michigan history and first women to hold the position when she was hired in 2013.

Over her tenure at EMU, she oversaw the Eagles highest graduation rates in history (81%), the highest overall GPA in EMU athletics history (3.259), the highest term (3.238) and cumulative (3.266) athletic department GPA’s in Eagles history.

According to her bio on the EMU athletics website, Lyke was “fond of saying coaches and student-athletes need great teaching environments”.  She has overseen upgrades to the EMU rowing, softball, soccer, football and basketball facilities.

PITT fans, alumni and donor base should enjoy seeing that on Lyke’s career resume. Scott Barnes started the upgrades to the athletic facilities in Oakland and on the South Side and it looks like Lyke will continue what he started because there is plenty of work still to do to get PITT athletics facilities up to par with the rest of the ACC.

Lyke may have not been one of the names that were being tossed around during the search.  But, when you take a look at her career resume you like what she brings to an athletics program.

She realizes how important football is to revenue, enrollment and excitement around a University.  And she also knows that the Olympic sports also play a key role in the atmosphere and notoriety around an athletics program.
