These are unprecedented times we are living in currently. The Coronavirus has had an unparalleled affect on all of us around the world. My hope is that all of you are staying safe, staying healthy, and staying inside.
These are also unprecedented times for Coach Capel and Pitt Basketball as well. There is enough pressure in trying to improve your program without the loss of two key players from last year. Add a worldwide pandemic, and a rabid fan base. I wouldn’t want to be in Capel’s shoes right now.
As mentioned before, Coach Capel has made his intentions known about recruiting the best talent in the country. Murphy III and Jeffress are another testament to that. Capel is looking at these two recruits to fill the scholarships left open from the transfers of McGowens and Murphy. To his credit Capel is starting to sign Top level recruits. Get ready Pitt fans for Mr. Hughley next year, and Mr. Schifano soon after!
Jeffress, a 6’7 Guard, reclassified to be eligible for 2020 class after having an incredible year last year at McDowell. Averaging 21 ppg and leading his team to a State Championship. He also had and incredible year playing for USA Basketball. Winning the Gold at The FIBA Americas U-16 Championship for his country. He made an official visit to Pitt for the Miami game. Jeffress will turn all of 17 in June!
Trey Murphy III, a Transfer, is a 6’8 Sophomore Shooting Guard from Durham, North Carolina. He averaged 14/6/1 on 43% shooting from the field for The Rice Owls last year. He recently took a virtual tour of Pitt, and put Pitt in his Final Four.
Capel, and this Pitt program, would make a major statement if they land Jeffress and Murphy III. Let’s see if Capel can seal the deal.
