Some good news coming out of the University of Pittsburgh Men’s Basketball program today. Au’diese Toney announced on Twitter that he has decided to stay, and not transfer from the program.
Toney, a Sophomore Guard from Alabama, averaged 9.5/4.8/1.2 on 46% shooting from the field last year. Toney was a key rotation player off the Panther bench last year.
Having depth off your bench is essential. Especially in ACC play. Pitt was already short at the guard position with Trey McGowan and Ryan Murphy entering the NCAA transfer portal after the season.
Toney is quoted on Twitter, “You never forget those who believed in you first and you never abandon those who held you down while experiencing your worst. Coach Capel and The Zoo thank you for accepting me at my best and my worst ….Let’s finish the job.”
Toney staying is a huge win for the Pitt Basketball program. Coach Capel is building a winner at Pitt. In order to do that you need quality leaders, and character in the locker room. Toney is a Junior next year, and having Upper Classmen leadership is key to that winning culture. Something Pitt, and Coach Capel are getting back too.
