- Offensive Line
- Class of 2005
- Plymouth, PA (Wyoming Valley West)
- 6-6, 270 lbs
- Status: Uncommitted
Notes:
Very athletic for his size, Mattes stars in basketball as well as football. His brother, Brian Mattes, currently attends Notre Dame on a football scholarship.
Coach Edward Michaels: “He’s athletic. He runs a 4.9 in the 40. He’s very strong. He can bench press 325 pounds, squat 465 pounds, and power clean 265 pounds. Kurt’s going to be a big player in college. When he graduates here he could be 270, 275 pounds. He’s going to fill out.
“His work ethic is what really separates the kid. He’s an incredible worker. And, he’ll do anything to help the team. He was an offensive tackle early on here, but we switched him to tight end and he was fine with it. I like to say he’s a coach’s dream. He just has a passion to win.”
