Pitt Stuns #11 Florida State

2019 Pitt 76 #11 Florida State 62 - ACC Basketball

There’s Trey and there’s Trey. The Pitt Panther freshman is all over the court. And supported by his fellow freshman phenom Xavier Johnson, the two Pitt guards scored 30 and 16 points respectively in Pitt’s 75-62 stunner over #11 Florida State at the Peterson Events Center in Pittsburgh.

The Panthers (12-5, 2-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) ended a 13-game losing streak against ranked teams, which came ironically against Florida State on Feb. 18, 2017.

Trent Forrest scored 19 points for the Seminoles (13-4, 1-3), who lost for the third time in four games. Pitt never trailed over the final 11:46, and used its freshman backcourt to win its second consecutive ACC home game. Last season, Pitt went winless in the ACC. The move by Athletic Director Heather Lyke to fire former head coach Kevin Stallings and replace him with first-year head coach Jeff Capel has proven to be genius.

Pitt plays long-time rival Syracuse at the Carrier Dome on Saturday, Jan 19th. The former Big East institution also knocked off #1 Duke tonight at Cameron Indoor Arena, a place where Duke went 90-0 against non-ranked opponents previously.
