JUCO Guard Jonathan Milligan Picks the Panthers

Jamie Dixon has added JUCO guard Jonathan Milligan for this upcoming season. Milligan played for Kilgore College last season and put up pretty solid numbers as he averaged 14.3 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game. He was just as efficient as he was effective shooting 48.3 percent from the field, 40.3 percent from three, and 79.1 percent from the line.

It was no secret Pitt was in desperate need of backcourt depth after offseason surgeries to both Sterling Smith and James Robinson. As well as the eventual transfer of back up point guard Josh Newkirk to Indiana. Milligan is a solid 6’2 and weighs 170 pounds. Dixon wanted him for not only his ability to score from all over the floor, but also his defense. The Orlando, Florida native has impressive quickness and instincts, which will definitely help him in Dixon’s system.

Milligan is the type of combo guard Pitt needed to replace Newkirk, but since he will just be joining the program do not expect a lot of minutes right away. He still needs to get acclimated to this new setting and because the season is only a couple months away he has an uphill battle to climb. One thing is for sure though Milligan was a needed addition.
