Pitt In Position To Land Recruits

Plenty going on with the Pitt football team both on and off the field.

On the field, Head Coach Pat Narduzzi will conduct his first fall practice tomorrow morning at the teams UPMC South Side Complex. Off the field, the football program is in good position to land a few quality recruits.

Tomorrow evening, Central Catholic DT Rashad Wheeler will make his college decision live on KDKA TV during the 6 pm newscast.  The 3-star player will decide between Pitt, West Virginia and Maryland.  Aside from those schools, Wheeler also received offers from Boston College, Rutgers, Tennessee, Penn State, Virginia and Illinois.  I’d be surprised if Wheeler doesn’t select Pitt.

On August 14th, Florida fullback Theo Anderson will decide on his college and DreamBackfield.com believes Anderson will be pick between Pitt and Wisconsin.  Anderson is rated the #2 fullback in the country by Rivals.com.

Another Florida prospect will make his decision this month and that’s Florida DE Jamal Smith. The 3-star DE will reportedly announce on August 21st.  Smith is likely to pick between Pitt, NC State, Kentucky and Oregon State. I’m hoping to have a story on Dreambackfield.com larger this evening.

Those were recruits with selection dates, here are a couple that could decide before the end of the month.

Khaleke Hudson: Intended to announce this past Saturday but canceled it.  Still no word on why the delay but he appears to be close.  I believe his final 5 are Pitt, Penn State, West Virginia, Virginia a Tech and Maryland.

Aaron Mathews: Like Hudson, has been a very difficult player to find any information on. Likely to come down to Pitt, West Virginia and Maryland.  Like Wheeler, I’d be surprised if Mathews doesn’t pick Pitt.

Zack Gilbert:’ 3-star defensive end from Charlotte, North Carolina. Originally planned to decide on September 11th but since has told me that he’ll decide earlier.  I was told that it would be coming down to Pitt and Virginia Tech for Gilbert. The son of the former Pitt great (Sean Gilbert) holds offers from Boston College, Duke, Florida, North Carolina, Tennesee and West Virginia.

Therran Coleman: 3-star cornerback from Brashear H.S. Coleman is a player that the Pitt coaches really want to land. Big-time talent that could get on the field early and be a star in Pat Narduzzi’s defense. Pitt is battling Wisconsin, West Virginia and Arizona State for Coleman.

Pitt currently has 8 commitments for the Class of 2016 but I believe that will be up to at least 11 by the end of August.
