Pitt opens their summer football prospect camp on Friday, June 6th.  One of the attendees looking to impress the coaching staff will be Murrysville (PA) Franklin Regional linebacker Brett Zanotto (6-foot, 215 pounds).

Zanotto enters Pitt camp with a number of impressive scholarship offers including Maryland, Boston College, Syracuse, Massachusetts and Toledo.  Brett is capable of running a 4.6 forty-yard dash.  He accrued 157 tackles (27 for a loss) and seven sacks last season.

“(Pitt linebackers coach) Chris Haering has been my main contact at Pitt,” said Zanotto.  “He’s stopped by my school a few times.  Coach Haering seems like a really nice guy.  He’s very enthusiastic about football.  I’m looking forward to working out for him on Friday.”

Zanotto hopes to finalize the recruiting process by mid-July or early August.  Maryland, Boston College and Syracuse are his current top three schools.  If Pitt were to offer, would they work their way into the hunt for his services?

“If Pitt offered, I would be very grateful.  I have been there several times so I know Pitt fairly well.  It’s nice in that it’s 20 minutes from my house,” he said.  “I would be grateful to receive an offer from them.  They would be in strong consideration (if offered)”.

Zanotto has already visited Maryland and Toledo.  He had very positive things to say about both schools.  He plans on visiting Boston College and Syracuse this summer.

When asked what his primary strengths were at linebacker, he stated, “Most schools like me as an inside linebacker.  I’m a sideline to sideline tackler.  I can really move well laterally.  I can cover a running back.  I’m a linebacker that’s active and I can move.   I probably can put on another ten pounds on my frame.”

“I like Pitt and look forward to a good camp appearance on Friday.”

DreamBackfield.com will follow up with Zanotto over the weekend.
