With only three scholarship Quarterbacks on the 2014 roster, Pitt is looking at multiple 2015 prospects and one is Alex Hornibrook of Malvern Prep (Pa). He stands 6’4” and weighs in at 210 pounds, both are very good measurements for a Quarterback. There is a lot to like about the way he plays and there’s a lot that he likes about Pitt.

Dreambackfield.com caught up with the southpaw Quarterback to talk about his recruitment.

Hornibrook has a lightning quick release and very good footwork. He doesn’t hold on to the ball long. It’s a three-step drop, ball is gone or a five-step drop, ball is gone. He’s very accurate and adds great touch to his long balls.

He has four scholarship offers to date including Akron, Colgate, Lafayette and Yale. Of the schools that have not offered, “Pitt, Kentucky, UConn and Wake Forest have shown the most interest.”

When asked about what he likes about the Quarterback position, Hornibrook stated “I like how you have control of the whole game every single play. If you’re team needs to score the quarterback is the one who can do that for them.” Recently, he has been going through a spring evaluation process where college coaches from around the country have come to watch him and his team workout. “We’ve had over 35 schools come in to see us workout and throw.”

Of those 35 schools, Pitt was one of them. “Coach (Jim) Hueber and Coach (Joe) Rudolph came up to see me throw a couple weeks ago.” Hornibrook has also met with Coach (Paul) Chryst when he attended Pitt’s Junior Day. When it comes to the coaching staff, he said “I really like the coaching staff at Pitt. I’ve been up there a few times and feel like they are coaches I could see myself playing for.”

Hornibrook praised Coach Chryst on the way he develops his players. He said, “One thing you have to look for in a school is if they develop their players. There’s no question that they do that at Pitt given the success their past QB’s have had.”

Former Georgia Bulldog Aaron Murray is the Quarterback that Hornibrook said he tries to mold his game around. Murray has a very good technique and Hornibrook believes his technique sets him apart from other Quarterbacks in the 2015 class. “I think my technique and mechanics have gotten me a long way, but beyond that I feel like I understand a lot more mentally than some other guys my age.”
