Toledo (OH) St. John’s wide receiver Maxwell McCormick (6-foot-3 inches, 195 pounds) has started to garner a tremendous amount of attention due to his size and athleticism.  Pitt defensive coordinator Matt House recently visited his high school to meet him in person.

“Coach House stopped by my school to speak with me.  It was the second time we met.  They like me at wide receiver and defensive back but I think they are leaning towards offense with me,” stated McCormick.  “He’s going to come back in May to further evaluate me.  He told me they are going to track my academics as well.  I know Coach House told me they really want to me to attend their summer prospect camp.”

McCormick has yet to receive a scholarship but Eastern Michigan, Ohio University, Cincinnati, Pitt, Indiana, Boston College and Western Michigan have been in close contact.  He led St. John’s High School with over 600 receiving yards last season.

When asked about his strengths at the wide receiver position, he stated, “I’m very physical, I can get great separation, I have great length and strong hands.”

“I’m looking for a program with a strong fan base and environment.  I want to feel comfortable with the coaching staff.  That’s important to me.  I want a school that simply has a good overall feel to me.”

Maxwell has a tremendous amount of connections to Pitt and the City of Pittsburgh.  “I love Pitt.  My mother and father both went to school there,” he said.  “My sister is currently at Pitt and we have family in the Pittsburgh area.  I’m there pretty often.  My oldest sister lives in Pittsburgh as well.”

“(Pitt redshirt freshman tight end) Tony Harper went to my school.  He’s someone I can talk to about Pitt.  I know Tyler Boyd as well.”

Pitt, Indiana, Purdue and Kent State appear to be the early front runner for McCormick’s services but he did state that he was ‘wide open’ at this moment.

“I look forward to my second meeting in May with Coach House.  I’m going to try to attempt Pitt’s summer camp and see where things go from there.  I really like the Pitt football program.”
