The Pitt coaching staff is very familiar with Davidson High School in Hilliard, OH.  Pitt offensive coordinator Joe Rudolph spent a great deal of time there pursing lighting quick 2014 cornerback Phillipie Motley.  With Motley officially in fold, it appears coach Rudolph is in hot pursuit of another standout – 2015 outside linebacker prospect Markus Bailey (6-foot-1 inches, 212 pounds).

“I have offers from Pitt, Akron, Boston College, Northwestern, Illinois, Indiana, Toledo and Western Michigan,” stated Bailey.  “Coach Rudolph and another coach went to my school to visit Phillipie.  They hinted around offering me a scholarship but I didn’t know if it would happen.  Phillipe hinted around it as well.  He seemed to know something.  I was still surprised when the offer came through.”

With his Pitt offer in hand, Bailey and Motley will visit Pitt this weekend.  “I’m excited to what Pitt has to offer.  Phillipie has told me a lot of good things about Pitt.  He said it’s a great place to go to school.  We’re going to be there Saturday (3/15).

When asked if his relationship with Phillipie would help Pitt’s chances, he stated, “He’s a good friend.  We have known each other since middle school.  We have run track together.  I would feel comfortable knowing I’m going to Pitt and a friend is there.  He could give me perspective on how to prepare for college ball and life.”

Bailey is primarily being recruited as an outside linebacker but also plays strong safety and running back at the high school level.  He was asked to outline his strengths on the football field and he quickly stated, “I’m a good football player.  I understand the game.  I’m a fast and I’m a strong open field tackler.  In the past I have played a number of positions including tight end, running back and slot receiver.  Teams can use me as a utility man.  I always give 100% and I’ll do what I can to help my team win.”

“I’m from Ohio so I grew up rooting for the Buckeyes, but I’m very open right now,” he said.  “I want to take my visits and look at my options.  Pitt is close to home and that’s good thing.  I want my mother to get to games and Pitt’s location is great.  I’ll probably narrow things down during the season and make my decision after that.”

“I’m excited about this Saturday.  I’m looking forward to seeing what Pitt has to offer.”
