Florida DT Ivie an early target for Pitt

“Pitt offered me a scholarship about a month ago.  It literally came out of nowhere and I was shocked,” stated Dade City (FL) Pasco defensive tackle Andrew Ivie (6-foot-2 inches, 270 pounds).  “The first contact I personally had to Pitt was Pitt defensive tackles Coach Inoke Breckterfield offering me.  I really didn’t expect it.”

The Panthers coaching staff has been in hot pursuit of Ivie’s teammate Bowman Archibald.  While studying film on Archibald, Pitt took close notice of Andrew.

“Bowman and I really would like to get up to Pitt to visit.  It would be great to play together in college, but I know that he has many more offers and options than I do.”

Ivie has received scholarship offers from Pitt, Cincinnati, Florida, South Florida, Mississippi State, Central Florida and Rutgers.  He registered 75 tackles and 6 sacks last season.

Andrew was asked if he was willing to leave the state of Florida.  He quickly replied, “Distance isn’t an issue.  I want to attend the school that makes me feel most at home.  I’m very open right now.”

Ivie played defensive tackle and fullback last season.  He’s primarily being recruited for defense.

“I’m really agile for my size and I’m quick off the ball.  I’m not the biggest lineman but I’m a playmaker,” he said.  “I explode off the ball.  Many of my tackles last season were for a loss of yardage.  By the time the guy across from me reacted, I was already in his face or moving past him.”

Ivie, similar to 2014 defensive tackle recruit Connor Dintino, is an accomplished wrestler.
