Pitt Offers 2019 Illinois Lineman

Will Putnam-1

The first offer from Pitt prospect camp went out to Offensive Lineman Will Putnam 6’4″ 255 of Chatham, Ill Glenwood HS Saturday. The Pitt offer is Putnam’s second having been offered by Illinois in June of 2015 prior to his freshman year.  After prospect camp finished for the day I spoke briefly with Putnam about his Pitt offer.

MJ-“What did it mean to pick up your first ACC offer from Pitt?”
WP-“It feels great. Pitt has some great coaches and facilitiesand a very promising program which makes it all the better.”
MJ-“What were your impressions of the city of Pittsburgh and Pitt’s facilities?”
WP-“The city of Pittsburgh is amazing. I had some time to walk around some the night before the camp and the atmosphere was great. Pitt’s facilities are top notch. From the weight room to the locker room it was great. Plus, I find it cool you’re practicing right next to the Steelers.”
MJ-“You display high level technique and a mean streak to the whistle. How long have you played football?”
WP-“I first started playing football in first grade. I’ve played football allmy life in various states like Virginia, Hawaii and Illinois.”
MJ-“Wow. Military family?”
WP-“Yes, my dad is in the Army.”
MJ-“Are you from a family of athletes?”
WP-“My grandfather played at Miami of Ohio, My father played at Dartmouth and my brother is going to wrestle for Air Force.”
MJ-“Do you participate in any other sports?”
WP-“I wrestle heavyweight for my school. I’ve been wrestling since I was seven. It’s a great sport.”
MJ-“Who officially extended the offer to you?”
WP-“Coach Narduzzi”

Will Putnam in my opinion will be a national recruit. He’s got tremendous size and ability for a freshman. Watching his Hudl highlights you can see his quick feet off the ball, bends and the knees not the waist like most tall young linemen, plays with good pad level, uses leverage to his advantage, has a mean streak which I like in a OL prospect and has above average lateral mobility pulling and getting to the second level. All these attributes lead me to believe ultimately his best position will be LT or OG in college. Pitt having staff continuity and developing relationships with prospects early in their recruitment will pay off.
