Redshirt junior center Artie Rowell was injured last Friday when the Panthers defeated the Boston College Eagles.  His injury appeared to be a ‘non-contact’ injury which often leads to abysmal results.  Rowell’s worst fears came to fruition on Sunday when Pitt officially announced that he tore the ACL in his left knee.

“I know I speak for our entire team in saying we are very disappointed for Artie,” stated Pitt head football coach Paul Chryst.   “I’m certain he will attack his rehabilitation with everything he has to get himself ready for next season.”

Rowell was replaced in the lineup by redshirt sophomore Gabe Roberts (6-foot-5 inches, 305 pounds).  If Roberts permanently enters the starting lineup, he will be backed by massive redshirt freshman Alex Officer (6-foot-4 inches, 335 pounds).

Rowell has started the last 15 consecutive games at center for the Panthers.
