With close to twenty offers, it’s safe to say that Shareef Miller (6’5” 232 pounds) is a talented football player. The 2015 Defensive End is getting ready for his senior season and is now taking the time to look into schools more and go on visits.

Dreambackfield.com caught up with Miller to see how things are shaking up and see where Pitt stands for the Philadelphia prospect.

“The Offensive and Defensive Line Coaches (Jim Hueber and John Palermo) came to my school to talk to me before. They seem really honest. They told me things I wanted to hear like they play a lot of freshman.”

The depth on the defensive line has been an area of worry for the 2014 season and previous seasons as well. Now, it is an even bigger concern as Ejuan Price is lost for the year. Miller says he likes to check numbers out before looking at a school. “I look at the depth chart and see what players a school is bringing in. I also look to see how many sophomores, juniors and seniors they have and how long people are staying.”

Aaron Donad’s record breaking season and winning four national awards has caught Miller’s attention as well.

Miller has scholarship offers from schools including Arizona, Arizona State, Cincinnati, UConn, Michigan State, Oregon, Penn State, Rutgers, Syracuse and West Virginia along with others but it was the Oregon offer that caught him offer guard. He said, “I wasn’t expecting Oregon at all! Oregon is far! That’s the whole other side of the world from where I’m at.”

As of late, Pitt has been working hard to recruit the Philadelphia area by signing players like Justin Moody, Patrick Amara and Hez Trahan and that is something Miller likes. “That’s cool that they’re getting guys from Philly. I’d like to go to a school with players that I know.”

In fact, Miller and Amara actually know each other will be hanging out together whenever he visits Pitt during the weekend of the 25th.

This summer has been mostly about academics for Miller who has been attending summer classes to pick some of his grades up that he isn’t happy with. Now, he’s going to start taking some visits. This weekend, he will be visiting Rutgers, UConn and Syracuse with Pitt and West Virginia the following weekend. “I want (officially) visit Michigan State, Oregon and Arizona State but that could change.”

As a Defensive End, Miller has the ability to use his 4.63 speed to find the ball quick. It’s his athleticism that makes colleges coaches interested. “Some schools actually like me at Outside Linebacker. I’m very athletic and I think if I had too, I could make the switch from end to linebacker.”

“I’m a very smart player. I have a high IQ. I’m fast and I can read plays. Some areas I need to improve are my strength and technique. I want to add some moves too. I really don’t use moves because my first step is so fast that I haven’t needed moves. I’m just going to keep working. I really don’t care about stars. I know what I can do and I’m just trying to prove myself. I’m going to compete.”

As of now, Miller has no favorites or top schools. He is open to almost everyone. “I like a lot of schools. There are about six or seven that I really like. I’m not sure when I’ll commit. Some days I want to do it before the season and some days I want to do it after.”

When asked how he feels about the Panthers he said, “They’re a good school. I like Pitt.”
